Intern With Us

We are happy to give young people the opportunity to get to know us and our work. Thorough onboarding and professional guidance by a dedicated contact person go without saying for us. You can shape your internship together with us so that you can apply your exact talents. It is very important to us that you take away a lot of valuable experience for your future professional practice.

We primarily accept students of social work, as our qualifications enable us to provide the best possible supervision for them. We prefer longer internships (ideally more than eight weeks) on a full-time basis (part-time is only possible in exceptional cases). Queer individuals, people with non-German backgrounds, and people with disabilities are especially welcome.
It is important to us to provide our interns with close supervision. Therefore, we can only offer a placement to one person at a time. Please note that placements are often booked out well in advance, and we usually have to reject short-notice applications.

What you bring to the table:

You are 18 years of age or older.
You are currently studying or in vocational training, and the internship is a mandatory part of it. We primarily accept social work students (B.A. and M.A.). In cases of exceptional aptitude and motivation, we also consider students or trainees in related fields.
You have an interest in HIV and perhaps some prior knowledge.
Accepting all ways of life is important to you.
You are comfortable engaging with and talking about topics related to health, queer life, and sex.
You are open to acquiring new knowledge.
You can independently converse with people in German: Our work focuses primarily on counseling and education. To do this, it is essential to be able to talk with people about HIV/AIDS and their sexual health. As a rule, this requires a B1 language level or higher, with speaking and comprehension taking priority over writing skills.
You are able to navigate the two steps leading into our office. Unfortunately, this is not possible with an electric wheelchair, but with other mobility aids, it should not be an insurmountable obstacle. Are you unsure? Feel free to ask us.

Interns support our specialists in the diverse tasks and services offered by our office. During your internship, you will be a part of our team and accompany us in everything we do. This includes job shadowing, assisting with individual tasks, attending appointments, and potentially organizing your own small projects.

Interns are primarily deployed in the following two areas:

aws RheinNeckar: Together with us, you will support people living with HIV and other health conditions in their daily lives - for example, through conversations at our counseling center, home visits, accompaniment to shopping, medical, or administrative appointments, recreational activities, or group events. Prevention: You will help us educate people about HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. You will participate in information booths, distribute info and safer-sex materials at parties or other events, and assist us with texts and photos for our website or social media. You will join us at regional Pride events or support our testing service, Checkpoint.

Your specific assignments will depend on your interests, prior experience, strengths, the internship goals of your educational institution, and our current needs. However, please note that you should have a fundamental interest in all of our services, not just individual ones.

Since we increasingly receive inquiries from educational professionals in training: It is, of course, possible within the scope of your internship to shadow selected educational events. However, we do not offer the opportunity to lead events yourself. If you are exclusively interested in the educational sector, Aidshilfe is not a suitable placement for you, and we will have to decline your application.
