aws RheinNeckar

Es sind viele Hände übereinander zu sehen. In einer Ecke ist das Logo von AWS Rhein-Neckar. Der Untertitel ist: Dein Alltag. Dein Tempo. Unsere Unterstützung.

aws RheinNeckar – Your life. Your pace. Our support.

aws RheinNeckar is a so-called "assistance service in one's own living space and social environment" (in short: AWS / formerly: outpatient assisted living, ABW). It is an integration assistance service under SGB IX (Social Code Book IX) for people who need support in their everyday lives.

What exactly does that mean?
Specialists support adults with various illnesses or disabilities in living as independently as possible in their familiar surroundings. Depending on individual needs, meetings take place at our office, through home visits, or by accompanying individuals to medical/official appointments or other obligations. How exactly the service is structured depends entirely on the needs and wishes of the person eligible for benefits. That means: everyone receives the exact help they need.

Note: We support people who live in their own apartment in Heidelberg, Mannheim, or the Rhein-Neckar District. We do not provide housing and cannot assist with the housing search!

Our approach and what we stand for

Since 1986, we have been supporting people through life and in death. Since 1995, we have been providing intensive support within the living environment. We have extensive experience working with individuals who have faced social exclusion and psychological distress. Our specialists are open, empathetic, and view people holistically. Dignity and respect are a matter of course for us. We work in an individualized and relationship-oriented manner. Our focus is on what people do well, and not just on their weaknesses and problems.

It is natural for us to listen to the wishes of the people we support and to involve them as much as possible in shaping that support. We are well aware of the tension between individual wishes, needs, and boundaries on the one hand, and the overall plan of the responsible funding body on the other, and we strive to manage this in the best possible way.

Other pillars of our work:

  • Our attitude lives in our day-to-day work; it is reflected in our mission statement.
  • We take legal foundations, such as quality assurance and data protection, very seriously.
  • Our specialists engage in regular continuous training, and we offer internal peer counseling (intervision) as well as external supervision.
  • We work with a primary caregiver model (Bezugsbetreuung) while still collaborating closely as a team to ensure reliable coverage during absences.
  • We sign a support contract with additional agreements to regulate our cooperation effectively and transparently.
  • We take conflicts seriously and offer a formal complaints management process.
  • We see ourselves as a safe space and have a comprehensive violence protection concept in place.

Differences between the Counseling center "Beratungsstelle" and aws RheinNeckar

Not sure if our counseling center is enough or if you need more intensive support? Here is a quick guide to help you decide:

Counseling center aws RheinNeckar
The counseling services are open to everyone. The support is aimed at individuals with psychiatric diagnoses and a specific need for assistance in daily life and community participation.
The counseling can be accessed easily. An assessment is carried out by us and the responsible funding body to determine whether the prerequisites for the assistance are met.
Appointments take place exclusively at our office. The specialists can also offer home visits and accompany individuals to appointments.
The counseling sessions are low-threshold, voluntary, and occur only as needed.Together, we define goals and measures to work on. The support is provided on a continuous basis.
Appointments take place strictly on an ad-hoc basis. Those seeking advice come whenever they wish.Regular contact takes place, which the specialists must document for the funding body. Benefit recipients are expected to actively cooperate toward achieving their goals.
Those seeking advice have no legal entitlement to counseling, accompaniment, or immediate appointments.Benefit recipients have a legal right to this support, which is funded by the responsible social welfare office (= funding body/ "Kostenträger"). Support is guaranteed even during vacation or illness periods and is our highest priority.

In summary:

Our services at the counseling center are designed as immediate support: they are low-threshold, straightforward, and open to everyone. However, making an appointment is required, and all meetings take place exclusively at our office. Please note that we may not always be able to offer short-term appointments, and we cannot guarantee coverage if your primary contact person is unavailable.

The support provided by aws RheinNeckar is long-term and intensive: we can offer deep support and accompany you outside the Aidshilfe offices. You are entitled to regular appointments, and we work together on all of your needs. However, this requires one or more diagnoses as well as a somewhat complex application process (which we will assist you with).
